Please describe gray markets as a marketting channel.|||That depends on the item for sale. But let's take what I know about for starters. I've been looking for a lens for a camera I'll be buying soon, a Canon EF 16-35 f2.8 L USM lens. The authorized dealer price is $1399.95 vs $1359.95 gray market. Now in this case I would never go for the gray (imported) market lens because of the slight difference in cost. But what you are usually saving in trade for shipping the item back to the country of destination for repair is worth it. But by buying the authorized dealer sold lens I can get it repaired at a photo shop in my neighborhood.
To better target your question now that you have an example to focus on is, gray market is in this case, a lens, made on the same assembly line ans is exactly the same lens, but because they chose to sell for a higher profit margin than Canon would pay them for it, Canon refuses to allow local photoshops to repair it. It is circumventing the OEM original equipment manufacturer. Below is an example with the lens I referred to:|||bad idea! a gray market is an illegal market set up by those who try to sell smugulled goods. its usually prevelant in countries where excise duties are sky high and people cannot afford foreign goods. also in such places local goods are pathetically low quality. buyers buy goods in a different country and sell them illegally at a particular place. the gray market also means a system of cashing in on scarecity.
i have a distinct feeling that i might have confused some things with black markets. sorry. :)|||tats generally a place where u get smuggled goods for low prices.. generally no taxes for goods from there..\
but be carefull of wat u buy cause there is a possibility they may be fake
